Hello!!
I hope that this finds you healthy and happy! So apparently, I’m starting a blog! It began as just a page on my website…an excuse to connect with all of you that I know & love, and for you to get a sense of what I’m up to in the world lately. But this is what showed up for me, so here it is! Some of you may already know this journey, but many don’t because I’ve been horrible at keeping up and also challenged when it comes to social media. (You all know it! It’s ok!)
After teaching high school social studies for 14+ years, mostly in Richmond, VA, I felt a strong pull toward something new, not to mention some place new. After spending a few summers with family in Sarasota, Florida, Ava and I made the decision to move down in 2016. We absolutely love it here! I found my beautiful partner, Bill, shortly after moving here. And the three of us are living this life surrounded by family, friends and the most beautiful weather!
It’s interesting. I spent many of those summers interviewing for teaching positions and depending on a secure position as the green light for making the transition. And yet, even though that position never materialized, I just knew that the time had come. And that I just needed to trust that feeling. I remember feeling that certainty at pivotal moments in my life and it had always served me. But I also have played it safe in so many ways and for many reasons…times when I was unsure and nervous about the future.
Have you ever noticed that in those moments when you just know what to do and you follow through on that feeling, that it doesn’t feel like a decision? (even if it changes the trajectory of your life!) You just know!
Well, that’s how it felt. I didn’t really know what I would do for work when we moved but felt open to adventures beyond teaching. Before we moved, I was walking back from the bus stop with a few other parents. As we approached my home with the SOLD sign in the front yard, one of the moms looked at the sign and said to me, “You know, if I listened to my life coach, I’d be doing exactly what you’re doing.” I stopped walking and said, “Your what?!?” And as she began to explain what a coach is and all of the insights that she’s gained from working with her, I felt this…(yep, you guessed it!) knowing that I was meant to have this conversation…that it was important somehow.
And that was just the beginning of this journey into the field of coaching. I got trained and certified by one of the best programs in the field. I went out to L.A. to learn from some of the best coaches in the country. But it isn’t until recently that I found my connection to this work.
I fell in love with a type of coaching that is far from traditional coaching…one that spoke to me in a way that nothing else had up to that point. Over the last year, I’ve experienced changes in my own life that have woken me up to a deeper understanding of myself and the world around me and it was effortless. It was only after I began to see how it changed my life, that I knew I wanted to share it with others and be a part of their experience of coming alive in their own lives.
Who knew it could be so simple and yet fundamentally change so much?!?
I have no idea where this journey will take me or what the destination is. But I’m starting to think that is the whole point of it for me. Following that knowing into the “unknown”. No matter what form it takes, as long as it comes from that space inside me…that connected part of me that’s deeper than my intellect. As long as it is created from that space, it can be anything. The possibilities are infinite from there.
Well, if you made it this far, thanks so much for taking the time!! I would love to connect and hear what you are up to! Please call or email!
And if you know of anyone anywhere in the world that you think would benefit from a coaching conversation (Or if you’re just curious what coaching is!!), let me know or send them a link to my website!
WHAT IF ONE CONVERSATION CHANGED EVERYTHING?!?
